Personality
Merry is one of the biggest of our foals and is very brave. He is one of the leaders of the herd, and along with his brother Pippin bosses everyone around when it’s feed time. Merry is Bay and has a white star in the middle of his forehead.
Merry will be staying with us permanently and will form part of our base herd. We hope that when we take on next years foals Merry will be able to help give them some of the stability they’ll need.
In the next few weeks Merry will be starting his ‘education’ and this will involve learning to have a headcollar on, to be lead around, to be stroked and to pick all his feet up. He is already very confident around people and will let us stroke his head when he is eating his hay.

What can you say about Merry? Quite a lot actually! He is one of the cheekiest of the ponies. His nose goes in everything! You walk in the field and his nose is in your face sniffing hello, if you leave a carry bag on the floor his nose is in it! You can stroke him all over and we have started picking up his front feet. When Kathryn put his headcollar on he just stood in the field and allowed her to do it! However he does like to get his own way and if he doesn’t want to go somewhere he will try his best not to!

Merry just gets cheekier and bolder by the day! Recently he had some stubborn moments when he didn’t want to pick out his feet or be led but we are through that now. It was just a case of re-enforcing what he had already learnt and making sure he understood what we wanted from him. He will let us catch him (normally he is stood next to us anyway) and take on and off his headcollar, he will be groomed and lets us pick out his feet, he will stand for the equine podiatrist but can sometimes be a little impatient. In the past his attention span has been somewhat minimal and training session have had to be short though he is improving with age! He always wants to know what is happening around him, he loves to play too and is the most energetic of our ponies, he is forever chasing the others around to play and has no qualms about waking them up if they are asleep to do so!
