Two of our helpers Kathryn Hulland and Nicky Hoopell came to see the ponies again today, and we all sat around chatting whilst the ponies ate hay next to us. It’s good for the ponies to meet lots of different people and get used to having larger groups of people around.

It is very interesting to watch their herd develop. On the moor ponies will be born into herds that already have a set hierarchy. Unfortunately all of our ponies, including the new ones are still quite young so it is not obvious who the bosses are. It is going to be very interesting to see who becomes the boss over food, water, who is the most interested in new things etc…

From our initial observations, Star seems to be boss over the food, and the ponies who are the most curious are Merry and Pippin.
We have given them a salt lick that contains lots of vitamins and minerals. This is very important for them, because they should still be getting lots of vitamins and minerals from their mother’s milk.
